Nalanda - A Glory to Wisdom || Impact on India

Writer: Daksh das

Nalanda, many people consider it as an old burnt down remains of a university; but only a few know about the truth.

The World's oldest University, Nalanda. Was a place to gather immense Knowledge. It used to be the most advanced place filled with variety of proficiency and students. Students, all around the globe travelled thousands of miles to study in it; and now-a-days, archeologist travel miles to study about it.

During the golden age of India, Shakraditya established the Nalanda University. It was an terminator for illiteracy. At that time, almost 99% of Indians were litrate, yes, may sound bizarre but it is true. It happened because during that time, Hindu Temples(mandirs) were used to gain knowledge about archery, maths, sanskrit(or local language). Almost every human settlement(referred to villages) at that time had a mandir. If somebody wanted to educate them-selves with higher knowledge then they would have to go to a bigger Temple and if they wanted to fill their brain with variety of comprehensiveness then they'll go to Nalanda; Temples at that time were not only used to gain knowledge but also for worship of God.

Every Nation/Empire/Civilization has their written records and knowledge stored in some way or another; same way the perplexing history of India was stored in it. The perception of a University in modern-days is a place for bookish knowledge, lectures, Engineering, Medical but Nalanda was different. India is the oldest civilization and we got many Mantras that indeed were powerful, it was foundation of spirituality and contained science that is far more dominant than modern-day science and there are proof. Thousands of years ago, in Bhagwad Gita Krishna predicted the situations of modern day. In Hanuman Chalisa, exact distance between the sun and earth have been mentioned. There are thousands of proof but less words to express.

Anyways, let's get back to the story; During the early 11th century. There was an imperialist, Bakhtiyar khilji. He was the ruler of Khilji dynasty. At that time it was quotidian in invaders to abolish the education in-order to weaken the youth, and leading to slavery, poverty, illiteracy in the people. Same strategy was applied by the British but more on that later. Bakhtiyar Khiliji became jealous of the knowledge that Indian own. He was jealous that his country's education system was fragile(in contrast to India's). So he burnt it down to ash.

Due to consecutive burning of books and knowledge, Indians were left with only few and that too verbal history; but it was a extensive across India. So, the English decided to utilize it to their advantage. They abolished the studying in mandir ritual, they made division on the basis of caste, race, religion etc. and they finally introduced a newly engineered education system for India that was perfect to destroy the youth and the knowledge of India; it was engineered so that Indians think that they are weak and the white are bigger, the sad part is that it's still in use. For example we're never thought that how great was the all mighty Marathas, the Guptas, The Chakravartys, We're thought about the family tree of Akbar. By the way, we Indians are so creative, we named the city in which Nalanda is located in as "Bakhtiyarpur"(referred to the person who burnt down Nalanda).
